Andrew is the last born in the family of eight children. His father passed on shortly before he was born, he was killed during the war in northern Uganda, leaving the family in the hands of a single mother. Among the eight siblings, it is only Andrew and his two sisters that managed to continue with school, the other five have dropped out of school due to financial constraints. After form four, when he was also about to lose the hope of continuing with school, The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at Brac, offered him a scholarship, which turned round his life. With the Scholarship secured, he joined Kiira College Butiki for his A’ level, and excelled in his final exams in 2014. Due to excellent performance, he was offered yet another Scholarship by The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University for his University education. Today Andrew is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary medicine, which he believes will help him meet his dream of being a Veterinary doctor. He believes that with the skills and knowledge acquired in the Veterinary course, he will be able to teach many people in his community who depend on livestock production, on how to increase animal production and even improve people’s health. He contends that he would not have this far with education without the generosity of The MasterCard Foundation, for which he is forever grateful.
