Negesa Sharifa

GENDER: Female

PROGRAMME: Bachelor of Information Technology

COLLEGE: College of Computing and Information Sciences

STUDY PERIOD: 2015 to 2018

The first born and the only girl in among four children, Sharifa was raised in an extended family of many dependants. Her mother works in a grocery shop while the father does subsistence agriculture to sustain the entire family. She completed her ‘O’ Level education but could not continue because her mother failed to pay fees for all the children from the meagre salary from her job. She heard from a friend about The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at Brac. She applied and got the scholarship that sent her to East High School Ntinda from where she completed her secondary level education in 2014, where she excelled in her final exams. She was then offered another Scholarship by The MasterCard Foundations Scholars Program at Makerere University, in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology. Sharifa wants to major in Programming and Networking. This she hopes will enable her to solve the problems of her community in different aspects in this dynamic world of technologies. She is grateful for the generosity of The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program, which has enabled her to get thus far with her education.
