Sselugo Dissan

GENDER: Male

NATIONALITY: Ugandan

DISTRICT OF ORIGIN: Masaka

PROGRAMME: Bachelor of Science in Nursing

COLLEGE: College of Health Sciences

STUDY PERIOD: 2015 to 2019

BRIEF BIO ON SCHOLAR:

Dissan was born 19 years ago in a polygamous family of 25 children. His parents separated just after his birth leaving him in the care of his single mother. His mother cultivated people's gardens to buy food and pay his school fees. With the little money she earned, she enrolled him in a nearby primary school where he started his academic journey. Dissan completed primary education from St Jude P/S, Lukaya. After the death of his father in 2009, he went to Wagwa high school for his ‘O’ level on a school bursary. He then attended Masaka Secondary School for his ‘A’ level under the support of MasterCard Foundation scholarship at Brac. Dissan is now a first year Nursing student at Makerere University College of Health Sciences with support from MasterCard Foundation Scholarship. Slowly, he is realising his potential of being an efficient health worker. He has used his pocket money to help his elder brother register for his second semester this year at Makerere University. He cannot wait to be a professional health worker through which he will offer quality health services fairly to the community irrespective of social class. He hopes to put up an international health facility in the future with help from fellow scholars and well-wishers. He wants to see Uganda a better country.
