Clare is the last born of six children, brought up by a single mother after she lost her father at a very tender age. Her mother sells food staffs to cater for home necessities, pay their school fees and also rent for their two bedroom house. She is the only one who has been able to reach university after her elder brothers and sisters dropped out at very early stages to help their mother.

She went to Valley College Bushenyi for her Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education where she studied History, Literature and Geography and scored 12 points but couldn’t join university because she didn’t reach the points for either government scholarship or MasterCard scholarship and get couldn’t afford going on private sponsorship.

She lost a year working at a mobile money station and taking care of her mother who had gotten an accident and was weak. Clare reapplied for the MasterCard scholarship and was lucky enough that during that year, her points were higher than the cutoff.

She believes that with the MasterCard scholarship, she will be able to achieve her career goal of becoming a teacher.
