PROGRAMME: Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications Engineering

COLLEGE: College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology

STUDY PERIOD: 2015 to 2019

BRIEF BIO ON SCHOLAR

Andrew hails from Bungokho- Mbale in eastern Uganda. He was born 20years ago to Wanamama Stephen and Anne Nekessa both peasant farmers who depend on subsistence farming for a living. He is the second born in the family of eleven children and several other dependants. Due to significant financial constraints in his family, his parents could not afford to pay his school fees. He was then taken care of by his uncle, who also at some point could not raise the fees for Andrew to continue with school. By sheer luck, he was offered a Scholarship by The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at Brac, which enabled him to join Nabumali High School for his O’level and then went to St.  Mary’s College lugazi for his A ‘level. Through hard work, Andrew excelled in his final exams with 18 points. He was then offered another Scholarship by The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University. Today Andrew is at Makarere University pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunication Engineering. While at university he expects to meet new friends, new challenges and new teaching skills. His thankful to The MasterCard Foundation for the generous support rendered to him and at the back of his mind he has an idea of giving back to his community through the telecommunication sector.
