Sentamu Canary

GENDER: Male

NATIONALITY: Ugandan

DISTRICT OF ORIGIN: Kampala

PROGRAMME: Bachelor of Agribusiness Management

COLLEGE: College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences

STUDY PERIOD: 2015 to 2018

BRIEF BIO ON SCHOLAR

Canary is the second born in the family of three. He hails from the remote village of Kyakatebe, Mubende district in Central Uganda. At the tender age of six, misfortune struck, and he lost his both parents, which left him in the hands of a good Samaritan-his paternal uncle. Through a lot of economic and social challenges, his uncle together with other well-wishers, supported him through the primary and lower secondary level of education. When the hope of joining A’level was waning, luck struck, and he was offered a scholarship by The MasterCard Foundation at Brac, and he joined Hana Mixed International School Nsangi. At Hana, Canary excelled in his final exams with 17 points out of 20 but he couldn’t join the University under government sponsorship for whatever course he applied for. Luck was yet again on his side, he was offered a scholarship by The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University, where he is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness Management. His goal is to improve the agricultural market strategies through teaching farmers the quality of agricultural products needed on the market, embracing value addition, through food science and technology, as well as connecting international markets to export the products, hence building the economy which entirely depends on Agriculture. He is forever grateful to The MasterCard Foundation for giving an opportunity to access quality education, which hopes he had completely lost.
